Guinea Pig Bladder Stone
Believe it or not, bladder stones are a thing in Guinea Pigs.
This little Guinea Pig presented to Pittwater Animal Hospital with bloody urine. Microscopic examination of the urine revealed bacteria. The Guinea Pig had a urinary tract infection. A few days later Dr Juliet rechecked the Guinea Pig and felt a suspicious mass in the abdomen. Time to get out the ultrasound to have a look.
The poor little thing had a large bladder stone visible on ultrasound.
What to do next? Surgery in Guinea Pigs is very high risk. She will have the infection controlled with antibiotics first, then surgery to remove the stone will be considered.
