How to medicate a turtle
Dr Tanian recently saw an unwell short-neck turtle who had stopped eating. At Pittwater Animal Hospital we have two reptile vets, Dr Juliet and Dr Bryn. Tanian contacted Juliet and after a long discussion of signs, the turtle was started on antibiotics. It is difficult and sometimes dangerous to give reptiles pills or liquids so most medication is given by injection.
The turtle was given antibiotics every other day by injection then booked in for a consultation with our nearby exotic specialist Dr Izidora Sladakovic at NVS at Terrey Hills.
Specialist appointments can take some time, so if you have a sick reptile, come to Pittwater Animal Hospital first for advice.
