Sadie’s fractured toe

This is little Sadie a six month old Australian Shepherd. One month ago she was chasing a frisbee on the beach and came home with a very sore right front foot.

When she presented the inner toe was swollen so it was straight to Xray.

Sadie had an oblique fracture of the first phlange. The fracture did not appear to involve the joint and it was not displaced. It was decided that rather than dressing the foot Sadi should be kept quiet for 6 weeks. (Not an easy task.)

Four weeks later Sadie was walking without any pain. The toe was not swollen and not even very sore. What a brave girl! The fracture is still visible and will take another month to fully stabilize but Sadie should have really good function in the long term.  Explore all our interesting posts
