Teddy was as sick as a dog

Teddy woke up one morning looking very sad and sorry and vomited about five times. He was absolutely miserable.

He presented at 8am and stood looking very unhappy. Sudden vomiting can be the sign of tick paralysis, but fortunately Teddy had been given Bravecto last week so tick paralysis was unlikely.
Teddy had a low temperature and we elected to start intensive care. He was given intravenous fluids and some medication for nausea.
Teddy’s basic bloods were reasonably normal, and within a few hours his temperature was back to normal. He was looking so much brighter.

Then it happened…. Teddy produced some terrible brown liquid diarrhoea with blood and mucus. That’s what was making him feel so bad. Haemorrhagic Gastroenteritis – HGE.

Teddy continued with fluids plus some medication for diarrhoea and was home looking bright and happy the next day.
