Dr Juliet Smithyman – Clinical Lead Veterinarian

Juliet grew up on the Northern Beaches and graduated from the University of Sydney in 1998. After graduation, she set off on what was intended to be a two-year working holiday in the UK. Fourteen years later, she returned to Australia with a husband, a young family, three dogs and a shipping container full of belongings!

During her time overseas, Juliet worked in several busy small animal practices before completing a Master’s degree at London Zoo. She then undertook a three-year residency in Zoo Animal Medicine at the University of Cambridge and Jersey Zoo. This extensive and varied experience gave her particular expertise in birds, reptiles and exotic mammals, although she is equally enthusiastic about general veterinary practice and surgery.

Juliet joined Pittwater Animal Hospital in 2016 and has become one of our most experienced and valued veterinarians. Her thorough diagnostic approach, excellent clinical skills and caring manner have earned her the respect of colleagues and the trust of clients.

Juliet has now taken on the role of Clinical Lead Veterinarian, joining Dr Jill King, Dr Heidi Furber, Dr Eamon Grattan-Smith, Sarah and Abbi on the PAH management team. She plays an important role in guiding the veterinary team, developing clinical protocols, supporting our younger veterinarians and ensuring we continue to provide a high standard of medical and surgical care.

Juliet enjoys the collaborative environment of a large veterinary hospital and is always happy to discuss challenging cases and share her considerable knowledge. Her calm, practical approach and commitment to both patients and colleagues make her a wonderful addition to our leadership team.

Outside the hospital, Juliet enjoys spending time with her family, being active outdoors and exploring the beautiful Northern Beaches coastline.
