Douglas’s cracked tooth

Douglas the seven year old tricoloured kelpie presented at PAH with a swelling under his left eye.

This often happens when the main chewing tooth on that side gets a tooth root infection. Sometimes it is hard to see if the tooth has been damaged but this wasn’t the case with Douglas.

What a shock when he was anaesthetized and we could examine the tooth – it was cracked all the way through.
Douglas is feeling much better now that the tooth has been removed.
Dogs mostly crack this main chewing tooth from chewing on hard bones or sticks.
