Is the medication safe?

At Pittwater Animal Hospital, we’ve administered thousands of doses of Bravecto® to dogs over the last five years. We’ve seen very few adverse reactions, and those were minor and resolved quickly.

The long-acting injection is a lower dose of Bravecto® in a very safe crystalline form that releases slowly over the year, providing complete protection for your dog. The testing has been comprehensive, and we believe this to be a much safer and easier way to protect your dog.

How soon after the injection will my dog be protected?

Full protection is achieved in three days and lasts for over one year. For the next year, the protection will be immediate upon receiving the injection.

My dog is already on tick control. When can they have the injection?

The injection can be given two months after your last Bravecto® dose and a few weeks after other oral products such as NexGard or Simparica.

Will the injection cost more than the oral Bravecto® chews?

The cost is based on your dog’s weight. Dogs under 15kg will actually pay less for their yearly tick protection. For dogs over 15kg, it may cost more than the yearly chews.

Message us online, and we can calculate the cost based on your dog’s weight so that you know the approximate cost before booking in.

Can the Bravecto Quantum® injection be given at the same time as vaccinations and heartworm injection?

Yes, it can.

Will my dog need treatment for intestinal worms?

The Quantum® injection protects against fleas and ticks but doesn’t cover intestinal worms. But don’t worry! At Pittwater Animal Hospital, we provide 4 doses of fenpral intestinal worm tablets at no extra cost when your dog gets a Quantum® injection.

My dog gets a yearly health check, vaccination, yearly heartworm protection injection, and the yearly Quantum® tick and flea injection. Is there anything else I need to do for routine preventatives?

The only thing missing from your routine is intestinal worm treatment. This should be done every 3-6 months.

Good news though! We provide 4 doses of fenpral intestinal worm tablets at no extra cost for all dogs given a Quantum® injection.

Is the injection available for cats?

Unfortunately, there is no injection for cats, but we have many effective spot-on treatments for cats.

My dog is on monthly NexGard Spectra®. Why would I swap to the Bravecto Quantum® injection?

Many dogs are already on effective tick control that also protects against heartworm and intestinal worms. If you dose regularly and use 12 doses over the year, there’s no need to switch.

However, if you find it difficult to keep up with monthly dosing, the yearly Bravecto Quantum® flea and tick injection combined with a yearly heartworm injection might be a better option for you. Intestinal worms will still need to be treated a few times a year.
