In-House Pathology Laboratory
The Pittwater Pathology Laboratory is located just off our Treatment Room, allowing our veterinary team to perform rapid, in-house diagnostic testing throughout the day. Immediate access to pathology results means faster answers, earlier treatment, and better outcomes for your pet.
Our experienced veterinary staff use our extensive laboratory equipment during consultations, hospital care, and emergency situations.
Microscope Bay
Microscopic examination is a vital part of veterinary diagnosis and is used constantly during consulting hours. To truly understand why skin is inflamed, or to identify the organisms or cells present in a discharge, samples must be examined under the microscope.
Your veterinarian may:
-
Take surface skin samples
-
Perform a fine needle aspirate
-
Examine ear, wound, or discharge samples
Slides are stained and examined using lenses ranging from 4× to 100× magnification. The information gained from microscopy is invaluable in guiding your veterinarian toward the most appropriate and targeted treatment.

Urinalysis and Sedivue
Urine samples can be analysed quickly in our laboratory using:
-
Chemical test strips
-
A specific gravity analyser
-
Sedivue, a computer-assisted microscope that examines urine sediment
Results are typically available within 15 minutes, helping your veterinarian make timely and informed treatment decisions.
