How to Cope in an Emergency

When your pet has an emergency, keeping calm will help you act quickly and safely.

Getting to the Vet

  • Stay calm and keep your pet as settled as possible.

  • Wrap your pet in a thick towel or blanket for safe transport. Cats are best in a secure cage.

  • If possible, have someone else drive so you can focus on your pet.

  • Take your wallet and phone with you.

Call Ahead

  • Phone Pittwater Animal Hospital on 9913 7979 or NEVS on 9452 2933 while you’re on your way — especially if your pet is difficult to move.

  • Our nurses may be able to meet you at the car with a stretcher.

Breathing Problems

If your pet is struggling to breathe, keep them calm and gently extend their neck to help open the airway.

Drive Safely

Even in an emergency, careful driving will help keep your pet safe.
