Having Tick Paralysis saved Bailey’s life.
This is Bailey. He is an 11 year old New Zealand Huntaway. (Yes – Very Grand). Poor Bailey had tick paralysis last November and it may have saved his life.
Part of our tick treatment protocol at PAH is to be anaesthetised and have a short clip all over. When Bailey was asleep on the table Dr Juliet noticed he had a large lump in his abdomen. (It could be seen from across the room and was about the size of a small soccer ball.)
Ultrasonic scans showed it was a splenic tumour but may have some liver involvement.
Bailey recovered well from his tick paralysis and had surgery a few weeks later at The Pet Specialist up at Terrey Hills #thepetspecialists and was also looked after by our Emergency Service NEVS #northsideemergencyveterinaryservices
This is Bailey visiting one month after his surgery. His results were all clear and the tumour is unlikely to recur. A silver lining to getting tick paralysis!
