Northern Beaches Council has announced in early February it will be conducting wild rabbit control programs including the release of Calici Virus. Wild rabbits cause significant environmental harm in our area.
Pittwater Animal Hospital has seen recent cases of sudden death in rabbits and we are concerned this may be caused by Calici Virus.
Calici Virus is spread by flies and dust and we have had many rabbits die from this virus in our local northern beaches area. The newer strains are much more dangerous. Rabbits require a booster vaccination every 6 months to have the best available protection. The most important time for vaccinations to be up-to-date is in the Spring and Summer seasons.
Your rabbit will need a booster if it has not had a vaccination in the last 6 months.
