Nail Clipping: A Tricky Task!
Clipping a dog’s nails can be quite the adventure, sometimes feeling like trying to wrestle a whirlwind! Our team knows that for some dogs, nail clipping can be a stressful experience, requiring lots of time and patience. That’s why our nail clipping service comes with a fee that reflects the effort involved.
At PAH we employ various calming and distraction techniques to help your dog feel more comfortable, often needing multiple team members to assist. In some cases, when a dog is particularly frightened, it can be impossible—and unkind—to clip their nails without sedation. For these situations, we’ll recommend sedation to ensure the process is safe and stress-free for your furry friend.
It’s also good to know that not all dogs need their nails clipped regularly, and sometimes only the dew claws need attention. We’ll assess your dog’s needs to provide the best care possible.
Cats, on the other hand, can be easier to clip, but their nails grow back quickly. To keep your cat’s nails short, they need to be clipped at least every four weeks. This is often not necessary until they age, at which point cats can develop thickened nails that may curl around and grow into the pad.
