Dogs
At Pittwater Animal Hospital, we understand the special bond between people and their dogs. They bring joy, keep us active, and are a big part of our community life. Whether you’ve just brought home a new puppy or have a senior companion, we’re here to help you keep them healthy and happy at every stage.
Annual Health Checks and Vaccinations
We recommend a yearly health check for all dogs. This visit includes:
-
Vaccinations
-
C5 vaccination every 3 years
-
Yearly heartworm injection (often given at the same time)
- Yearly tick and flea control
-
These appointments are a chance to assess your dog’s overall health, review parasite prevention, and discuss any concerns you may have.
Free Puppy Health Check
If you’ve welcomed a new puppy into your family, book their Free Puppy Health Check with one of our vets. This includes:
-
Full physical examination
-
Vaccination schedule advice
-
Feeding and parasite prevention guidance
-
Tailored care recommendations based on breed, age, and lifestyle
(If your puppy is unwell or injured, please book a full consultation instead.)
We can also help you choose a breed that suits your lifestyle if you’re still deciding.
Puppy School
Early training builds a strong bond and helps prevent behaviour problems. Our Puppy School uses positive reinforcement to teach good habits and social skills. Classes fill quickly — book early to secure your place.
Preventative Health Review
Before your dog’s annual check-up, you can complete our Preventative Health Review form. This helps us tailor advice and ensures nothing is missed. We also send reminders when your dog is due for vaccinations and health checks.
Pet Insurance Support
We can lodge claims online with most pet insurers, saving you time. For many providers, we can process GAP claims at your visit so you only pay the difference your policy doesn’t cover.
Desexing
We follow best-practice protocols to make desexing as safe and stress-free as possible. Our vets will advise you on the best timing based on your dog’s breed and lifestyle.
Surgery
From routine procedures to advanced surgeries, our hospital is fully equipped and staffed by experienced vets and nurses who provide attentive care before, during, and after your dog’s operation.
Dental Health
Dental disease is common in dogs and can cause pain without obvious signs. We check your dog’s teeth at every visit and offer dental assessments, cleaning, and extractions if needed.
Managing Ongoing Health Conditions
We have decades of experience treating:
-
Endocrine disorders (e.g., Cushing’s, thyroid disease)
Medication Reviews
If your dog is on long-term medication, we offer discounted review consultations to ensure treatment is working and to check for side effects.
Senior Dog Care
As dogs age, their needs change. During Senior Month (May–June), we offer affordable packages including full health checks and pathology testing to help keep older dogs comfortable and active.
End-of-Life Care
We provide compassionate support and guidance when it’s time to say goodbye. Our team will talk you through your options and make the process as gentle as possible for your dog and your family.
Emergency Care
If your dog needs urgent treatment, we’re here to help. Visit our Emergency Care page for advice on what to do and where to go in an emergency.
